When to treat
When a patient has symptoms of TD in conjunction with two blood tests suggestive of low testosterone, consider initiating testosterone therapy (TTh).1
The British Society for Sexual Medicine (BSSM) recommends initiating TTh only in symptomatic men in conjunction with weight-loss advice, lifestyle modification and treatment of comorbidities.1
TTh can be initiated when a diagnosis of TD has been confirmed and contraindications have been ruled out. Regular monitoring during TTh to avoid exposure to subphysiological or supraphysiological levels of testosterone is essential.
